Resistance Management

Recent testing from New Zealand vineyards has shown reduced sensitivity and potential resistance development to two fungicide groups. These are Group 3 – DMI fungicides and Group 11 – QOI (Strobilurin) fungicides.
 
 
 
Luna Sensation is a co-formulation fungicide containing fluopyram (an SDHI- Group 7) and trifloxystrobin (a QoI Group 11). Luna Sensation is classified as a medium- high risk fungicide for resistance development. To protect both active ingredients, Bayer has restricted the use of Luna Sensation to one application per season (see Spray Programmes). This is in line with recognised sound industry resistance management practices and global FRAC guidelines as below.
 
  • Restrict the number of applications of high risk single site MoA fungicide
  • Bayer recommendation is only one Luna Sensation application per season
  • Bayer recommends not using consecutive applications of SDHI/QoI mixture fungicides
  • Rotation of different MoA fungicides
  • As per Spray Programmes, rotate and use different MoA fungicides through the season long spray programme.
  • Use the most effective products to control the disease. Preventing disease outbreaks delays the development of resistant pathogen populations.
  • Luna Sensation has shown best in class efficacy in controlling powdery mildew in trials in New Zealand. See the Field Trials page
  • Tank mix single site MoA fungicides with multi-site fungicides
  • Luna Sensation can be tank mixed with sulphur
  • Use preventatively
  • Do not use Luna Sensation on an already established powdery mildew infection

A guide to fungicide resistance

Controlling early season infections to prevent later epidemics occurring is vital.
