Mallow - Large Flowered

Creeping mallow (Modiola caroliniana) is a mat forming biennial or perennial weed which can be problematic in orchards, turf and gardens. It has a prostrate creeping stems which root at the nodes. Creeping mellow is widespread in the North Island but less common as you go southwards in the South Island.

Mallow (Malva spp.) is a term used to describe a group of species. Several of them are difficult to tell apart. Generally, they are described as short-lived perennials meaning the same plant can continue growing for a number of years if conditions favour good growth. If not controlled properly in the first year after germination, control can become more difficult. Generally, older and / or larger perennial plants continue to grow and develop a larger root systems and hardier stems, making the use of higher rates of effective foliar herbicides and good coverage necessary.
