Crown Rust - Ryegrass Seed Crops
Puccinia coronate
Crown rust (Puccinia coronate) commonly infects ryegrass in New Zealand with the orange pustules being easily found on the foliage. The disease is favoured by warm, dry
conditions and with a short life cycle the disease can develop rapidly under the right conditions. In terms of yield loss crown rust is less important than stem rust but still needs to be adequately controlled.
