Crown Rust - Oats

Puccinia coronate
Crown rust (Puccinia coronate) infects cultivated oat varieties throughout New Zealand. Infected plants show orange pustules which are easily found on the foliage, and sometimes the stem. The disease is favoured by warm, dry conditions and with a short life cycle the disease can develop rapidly under the right conditions. Adequate control of crown rust is necessary to maintain the crop’s yield potential.
