Goodbye David, from the Bayer team

After a stellar 44-year career supporting the Canterbury arable industry David Weith has retired from Bayer Crop Science.

Farmers will be familiar with the many innovative, industry changing, products that Bayer Crop Science has brought to the New Zealand market over the years. Behind these products in Mid and South Canterbury, consistently providing support and expert advice, was David.

Canterbury’s arable farmers especially have benefited from David’s comprehensive and intuitive understanding about how to grow high yielding and profitable crops.

There have been many highlights in David’s career. It is a long list, one too long to detail here, but let’s highlight some standouts. David providing much of the agronomic advice that was a key element in Eric Watson being awarded the Guinness World Record wheat yield (twice!). David was awarded the Agronomist of the Year 2024 and in 2025 he was given the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand medal by the Methven A&P Society for supporting the Methven wheat competition for 30 years.

David – Bayer Crop Science and the NZ Ag sector recognise your massive contribution to the New Zealand arable industry. We’re sorry to see you leave but enjoy retirement.
